The Broadband Phone Network: Experiences with Context-Aware Telephony CUED/F − INFENG/TR.533

چکیده
We introduce the Broadband Phone, a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) based phone which integrates a high-resolution, touch-sensitive LCD screen. The Broadband Phone Network features: (i) a thin-client network architecture enabling easy integration into the sentient environment at the Anonymous University; (ii) location-sensing via the Active Bat indoor location system allowing applications such as the “follow-me phone”; and (iii) location-based handover of Bluetooth connections, enabling integration of the users’ own personal mobile phones. We describe the thin-client network architecture, the applications which use it such as the new dialing mechanisms, and also how the Broadband Phone can be used as a peripheral display. Finally, we relate our experiences with more than a year of operating this phone network and discuss the pros and cons of our

Designing MPC controllers by reverse-engineering existing LTI controllers
This technical report presents a method for designing a constrained output-feedback model predictive controller (MPC) that behaves in the same way as an existing baseline stabilising linear time invariant output-feedback controller when constraints are inactive. The baseline controller is cast into an observer-compensator form and an inverse-optimal cost function is used as the basis of the MPC...
متن کاملForecasting Capital Investment for Fixed-Telephony Network Switching Equipment in Tandem with NGN Migration Using Cobb-Douglas Model
This paper tries to estimate the capital investment required for the fixed-telephony network switching equipment as demanded by the fourth national development plan. As a first step, the Cobb-Douglas model is used as a successful demand forecasting model to estimate the demand over the target years. Then, an architectural plan is developed for the fixed-telephony switching network that takes in...

متن کاملContext-aware Modeling for Spatio-temporal Data Transmitted from a Wireless Body Sensor Network
Context-aware systems must be interoperable and work across different platforms at any time and in any place. Context data collected from wireless body area networks (WBAN) may be heterogeneous and imperfect, which makes their design and implementation difficult. In this research, we introduce a model which takes the dynamic nature of a context-aware system into consideration. This model is con...

Voice over IP (VoIP) is a family of technologies, methodologies, communication protocols, and transmission techniques for the delivery of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Other terms frequently encountered and often used synonymously with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband tele...
